The Los Angeles Times has the latest news on recent reports of a fifth instalment to the "Lethal Weapon" franchise. Richard Donner, director and producer of the all of the movies, spoke to the paper about the proposed "Lethal Weapon 5". While Donner is not implicated with the film, it was stated earlier this year that screenwriter Shane Black and producer Joel Silver were working on the fifth chapter of the series. It was also reported that Columbus Short will play Murtaugh's (Danny Glover) son in the movie.
The most shocking aspect of this newsbreak is the star of the show, Mel Gibson, turned down the idea.
Donner told the LA Times, "I would like to think that Mel turned it down because I wasn't involved. Knowing Mel, I would like to think that. Would that be kind of thing he does? It sure would be."
Regardless of what Donner thinks, can we trust the fifth film to be as successful without Mel? The project seems hopeless without him, but I guess we'll have to wait to see who they will choose to fill his shoes.
