Max Payne helmer John Moore says he doesn't like excessive use of greenscreen (a background for film shoots which is later replaced with CGI).
Moore, says greenscreen work is "boring" and he limited its use as much as possible on his latest film Max Payne.
"I don't like using greenscreen a lot, quite simply because it's f***ing boring," he told Digital Spy. "It's really boring to shoot on."
Talking about his video game adaptation, he added: "I would say we had three greenscreen sets. A lot of it was very real. We used a lot of old-fashioned matte painting techniques. Every time you see New York, it's digital matte paintings."
The Irish director also feels greenscreen is not the ideal way to get the best out of actors. He said: "They've nothing to react to, it's just not a fun way to get through your day. It's just a pain, so we went to great lengths - we shot outdoors a lot at night, it's all real snow. We were in Toronto, it was a terrible winter."
