The nominations for The 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards were announced yesterday with the usual suspects jostling for space including the exceptional "American Gangster" and the forthcoming "There Will Be Blood". But very much leading the charge for the British contingent is Joe Wright's "Atonement" with a princely 6 nominations to its name placing it right out in pole position in all major categories come January 13, 2008 when the awards will be dished out.

Of course, The Golden Globes are a strong indicator for future Oscar glory but what distinguishes it from the 'main event' is the fact that The Globes separates both the Drama and Comedy / Musical categories making for a more balanced ceremony. This means such stellar performances as Amy Adams in "Enchanted" and Ellen Page in the brilliant "Juno" get the recognition they deserve.
