Avril Lavigne wants to be an actress of Angelina Jolie's calibre.

The Sk8er Boy singer is the latest popstar who fancies doubling up with an acting career - but she's keen to distance herself from fellow songstresses-turned-actresses like Mandy Moore and Jessica Simpson. Instead Lavigne thinks she'll be dab hand at more serious films - like mental-health biopic Girl, Interrupted which won Jolie an Oscar in 1999.

"I can't do a Mandy Moore kind of movie, a chick flick," Lavigne told Australian newspaper Townsville Bulletin. "I have to do like a Girl Interrupted. I have to take my time and make the right choices."
