Helena Bonham-Carter joked that she would've dumped her partner Tim Burton if the director hadn't offered her a role in his forthcoming film.
The actress, who has a child with the Charlie & The Chocolate Factory helmer, was among 40 other actresses who auditioned for the part in Sweeney Todd.
"I auditioned for my role - although I'd have divorced Tim if I hadn't got it. In fact, we're not even married, but I'd have still divorced him," she said.
Bonham-Carter, who appeared in previous Burton films such as Planet Of The Apes, Big Fish and the aforementioned Roald Dahl adaptation, insists she was in the dark about whether she would feature in the new film while others might have been considered.
"We had no talk of it at home, because until he'd seen every other actress, Tim wouldn't say anything. And then when I knew I had the part, I thought, 'Oh my God we've got to work together', which is also stressful.
Hmm, you've got to wonder whether any of the other 40 actresses really stood a chance.
