Guy Ritchie has landed in hot water after he branded his ex-wife Madonna a "retard".
The Sherlock Holmes director was talking about his former wife during an interview with Esquire magazine.
He said, "I still love her. But she's retarded, too."
The remark was said to be a reference to the comment by Madonna shortly after they broke up. During a performance on her Sticky and Sweet tour, she dedicated a song to the "emotionally retarded" before adding: "You may know a few people like that. God knows I do."
Disability rights group The Arc however has blasted the director for his comments.
A spokesperson said, "Use of the R-word demeans people with intellectual difficulties."
