James Cameron sure loves his water - The Titanic director is making another plunge into the sea with The Dive.

The true story about controversial Cuban free diver Franssico Ferreras and his romance with Frenchwoman Audrey Mestre will be James Cameron's next project after he finishes work on Avatar. The big budget sci-fi epic is the director's first film since 1997's Titanic.

And while Cameron, who also made the watery thriller The Abyss, seems ready to dive back into working on films again the biopic will be the action director's first attempt at a drama.

He told Hollywood Reporter, "After Avatar I want to do something a lot smaller.

"It's a drama, a love story. This will require underwater photography, which will look gorgeous in 3-D."

Ferreras broke several free diving world records but died in 2002 while competing.
