The original starred Keanu Reeves as a rookie FBI agent who infiltrates a surfing gang led by the charismatic Patrick Swayze in a bid to stop a spate of bank robberies.
The sequel Point Break Indo will be set 20 years after the disappearance of Swayze's character Bodhi. It will directed by Speed's Jan Bont and will be filmed in Singapore and Indonesia. The production company claim the film will have "the most extreme actions stunts on camera."
The plot will focus on a special ops soldier and pro surfer who gets recruited by a private security force to find a group of bank robbers who work the same way as the ones from the first film.
It's not yet known if Reeves or Swayze are to make appearances in the film but it's been reported that they have been approached to reprise their roles.
Swayze confirmed earlier this year that he was suffering from pancreatic cancer.
