Burton to remake Alice in Wonderland

It seems like the film he was born to do... Tim Burton is to direct a new 3-D version of Alice in Wonderland for Disney.

The new film will be made as a mixture of live-action and motion-capture, with filming expected to be completed by May 2008.

Film buffs will no doubt be getting excited to see to what the famously inventive director does with Lewis Carroll's hallucinogenic children's story.

Disney will be working Burton hard, however, as he has also agreed to make an extended version of his early short film Frankenweenie. Production of the stop-motion animation will begin once Alice is completed.

The two films mark a turn around in relations between Disney and Burton. The director of the up coming Sweeney Todd movie worked as an animator for Disney in his early career. However, Burton was left dissatisfied with the artistic direction Disney wanted him to take.

Apparently Burton's designs for The Fox and the Hound "looked like roadkill." Probably not what Uncle Walt would have wanted...
