In another one of those 'on again, off again' stories that Hollywood seems so fond of, Sarah Michelle Gellar has spoken to Radio Free and reaffirmed her commitment to play the title role in "Alice" the long overdue big screen adaptation of the cult video game. "Alice" is a decidedly darker and more twisted take on the Lewis Carroll story that sees Alice return to Wonderland as a young adult after her entire family have perished in a fire. The effects of such a trauma turn Alice in to a rather disturbed individual.
The adaptation of the Electronic Arts classic was originally marked for Marcus Nispel (2003's "Texas Chainsaw Massacre") to direct and Gellar to headline but it would seem that the project was put on indefinite hold until very recently.
Some "Alice" rumours resurfaced last week indicating that "Lost" star Maggie Grace had landed this unique role but Gellar has come out swinging and assured Radio Free that the project is still very much in her court.
Gellar told Radio Free "("Alice") is a passion project of mine. It's a story that I'd love to see. I'm fearful at this rate that I'm going to be the Queen of Hearts because I'm going to be too old to be Alice! It's something I'd really like to see done. And unfortunately, it was the victim of regime change in the studio. And I'm not getting out. And contrary to what you may have read, it's still my project and I'm still working diligently. So to all those Alice fans, I'm not giving up. Because I believe there is such a beautiful, crazy, cool, twisted story to be told there".
