Brad Pitt has reportedly been hired to rescue the troubled Sherlock Holmes film.

The forthcoming Xmas movie, which stars Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law, has been hit by reports that Warner Bros aren't happy with what they have seen so far.

To appease them, director Guy Ritchie has ordered some reshoots - which will feature a cameo by Brad Pitt, reports The Daily Mirror.

Holmes' arch nemesis Moriarty is talked about in the film, but is not seen. However, it looks like Pitt will step in at the last minute to play the role.

Pitt previously starred in Guy Ritchie's 2000 crime caper Snatch.

A source told the Daily Mirror, "It's a huge coup to have Brad joining the cast. He has worked for Guy before and said if he could, he would do anything to help out. It was an oversight in the film not to make a bigger deal about Moriarty.

"He's mentioned as Holmes' arch enemy, but the bosses wanted Guy to make more of him."
