The makers of the recent Robert De Niro and Al Pacino movie have landed in hot water over the film's poster.

The offending image, which includes the tag line 'There's nothing wrong with a little shooting as long as the right people get shot', was criticised for being on display at Stockwell tube station during the Jean Charles de Menezes inquest.

The Advertising Standards Authority ruled that the poster could have caused serious offence, and was deemed a breach of guidelines.

The ASA said: "We understood the siting of the poster at the station was unintentional, but nevertheless considered that the text had the potential to cause serious offence in that location."

Righteous Kill, which was a critical failure and concerned corrupt cops, was De Niro and Pacino's second screen outing together. 50 Cent also starred in the film.

The picture's studio Lionsgate insisted that there was "no intention to offend", adding: "We considered that most people were likely to understand that the poster reflected the content of the film and the quote was intended to be wryly humorous."

De Menezes was shot by police at Stockwell tube station after being mistaken for a suicide bomber.
