Were you too taken in by those rather silly rumours that Russell Crowe was set to play all three main parts in Ridley Scott's "Nottingham"? Including Maid Marion! Well, I was, but only because the thought of Crowe shifting seamlessly from hero to villain to love interest really quite amused me. Alas, these rumours have been laid to rest by Scott himself in an exclusive interview with MTV. And it would seem that the once titled "Nottingham" will change its moniker to suit the change of emphasis in the story.
"Oh yes, I think we are just going to call it 'Robin Hood'," revealed Scott. "[Crowe as both Robin and the Sheriff of Nottingham] was an idea so far back, way back when at the time I had this proposed to me, and I read it and thought, 'I don't really know what it does for it, but it's alright'," Scott recalled of the now-abandoned idea. "It is better to simply have the evolution of a character called Robin Hood, who will come out of a point in the Crusades which is the end."
Indeed Crowe will now play Robin Hood (and Hood only) as a lowly bowman in the army who must fight an altogether different battle with local authorities for the hand of a fair Maid.
After so many delays in the project it is hoped that shooting can finally get underway in two months time - on location in Nottingham.
