Cheryl Hines, long-suffering wife of Larry David on cult sitcom Curb Your Enthusiasm, is joining the cast of a new rom-com from the Legally Blonde team.

The Ugly Truth will star Katherine Heigl (pic), who shot to fame last year with Knocked Up, and Gerard Butler, star of the faintly ridiculous 300.

Heigl plays the producer of a morning show. She's suspicious of romance, but is goaded by the chauvinistic reporter Butler into a series of challenges that will help her get in touch with her gentler side. Hines, meanwhile, will play the show's anchor.

It sounds like a cross between Anchorman and the role played by Heigl in Knocked Up, but no doubt the film will throw up some surprises of its own.

It's written by Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith and directed by Robert Luketic, reuniting the creative team behind the Reese Witherspoon hit Legally Blonde for the first time. The trio weren't involved in the Legally Blonde 2 sequel, so their reputations remain untarnished.
