A new Spider-Man trilogy is swinging its way to the big screen.

Zodiac screenwriter James Vanderbilt has been hired to spin the stories for the fifth and sixth instalment of the web-crawler's screen adventures.

His involvement comes as a surprise however, because despite that fact that he wrote a script for Spider-Man 4 it was reportedly heavily re-worked on by two other screenwriters.

But Sony have kept faith in the writer - with reports suggesting that the fifth and sixth parts of the series will be something of a reboot if Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire don't sign on for the future films.
