Maguire, Gyllenhaal to play brothers?

Spiderman star Tobey Maguire and Brokeback Mountain star Jake Gyllenhaal are in talks to co-star as brothers in a new film.

The movie, which is titled, simply, Brothers, is a remake of Susanne Bier's Danish-language war drama, and centres on a man (Maguire), who is sent to fight in Afghanistan while his black-sheep brother (Gyllenhaal) cares for his wife and child.

The original was released in 2004 and starred Connie Nielsen, Ulrich Thomsen and Nikolaj Lie Kaas.

The new version, a Relativity Media production, will be directed by Jim Sheridan, while the script has been penned by David Benioff. Relativity's Ryan Kavanaugh is producing alongside Michael De Luca and Joni Sighvatsson.

Filming isn't scheduled to start until November.
