Outkast's Andre wants gun for son

Outkast star Andre 3000 has caused a stir in America after claiming he'll buy his nine-year-old son a gun when he gets older.

The 31-year-old singer, who grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, told a US magazine: "Of course I carry a gun. I would want my son to carry a gun when he gets older.

"It's something you've got to have if you want to live and be safe."

Andre is currently starring a a musical film, Idlewild, with his Outkast co-star Big Boi, which is about gun-wielding 1930s gangsters.

UK campaigners Mothers Against Guns called his comments "stupid" and "irresponsible".

Idlewild the movie is playing in UK and US cinemas now.
