Jim Carrey has revealed that he was originally due to star in Meet The Parents alongside director Steven Spielberg.

The 2000 hit comedy, which was directed by Jay Roach and starred Ben Stiller, spawned a sequel - with a third on the way. But it was originally meant to star Carrey, until the funnyman had to drop out because of conflicting schedules.

He explained, "Meet The Parents was something that I was developing with Steven Spielberg.

"I actually created the Fockers in a creative meeting. But, it was perfect that Ben Stiller did it. When I saw it, I went: 'That's the way it's supposed to be done.'"
