Doug Liman's sci-fi adaptation "Jumper" has backed a nice little brace of Box Office crowns after topping the US and UK Charts! "Jumper" quite literally leapt (you can really tell that I'm running out of puns for this title!) to the top spot with an impressive £3 million opening and a phenomenal £7,500 screen average! "National Treasure: Book of Secrets" could only manage half that average despite airing in almost 100 more screens. So "National Treasure 2" falls a place to number 2. As does "Juno", which is riding the crest of a critical wave at number 3.
Actually climbing the chart this week at 4 is the family-friendly "Water Horse: Legend of the Deep", which has leapfrogged the monstrous "Cloverfield" at 5. A new entry at 6 is the Morgan Freeman / Jack Nicholson double-hander "The Bucket List". Director Rob Reiner's touching comedy not quite hitting the right notes with the cinema-going masses. Breaking in to the top ten after making its nationwide bow is the awards-hungry "There Will Be Blood". Daniel Day-Lewis' much talked about lead performance carrying the film to number 7.
Slipping down three places to 8 this week is rom-com "Definitely, Maybe" keeping the modern day fairytale "Penelope" company at 9. And rounding off this week's chart is Bollywood hit "Jodhaa Akbar" at 10.
