Taylor Kitsch runs the Gambit for "Wolverine"!

In perhaps the most exciting piece of comic-book geek news EVER Superhero Hype! have learned that the mutant Gambit will appear in director Gavin Hood's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine". According to reports "Friday Night Lights" star Taylor Kitsch will feature as the explosive Cajun Remy LeBeau (AKA Gambit - a mutant who can explosively charge any object although his favoured weapon of choice is a pack of playing cards).

Kitsch will join Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Liev Schreiber (who has now been confirmed as Wolverine's nemesis, Sabretooth) and the newly cast Danny Huston (as William Stryker) and Lynn Collins (Silver Fox) in the prequel, which is set to debut May 1, 2009. 20th Century Fox are already anticipating another wave of "X-Men" films having signed Kitsch on a three-picture deal (perhaps Gambit will be awarded his own spin-off?).

"X-Men Origins: Wolverine" will focus on Wolverine's dark past and his association with the Weapon X programme founder, William Stryker (a role originated by Brian Cox in "X2"). Along the way, Wolverine will go claw-to-claw with various mutants from the comics including rumours that the Blob (a gelatinous 500lb henchman) may be involved at some point in proceedings.
