The Monster's Ball actress's first child was born early Sunday morning at Ceders-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles. The father is model Gabriel Aubry who the Oscar winner met in 2005 while filming a Versace advert and the pair made their first public appearance as a couple three months later.
Berry admits that the distinctive name - which means honeybee in Arabic - came to them after she gave birth.
She told Access Hollywood, "We didn't have a name picked out until just before we left the hospital."
"For us it was hard to name the most important person in our life until we met her."
Elsewhere, Aubry's sister Eugenie paid tribute to her new niece and revealed that Berry will be teaching Nahla French, "It's been a long time since we've had a new baby in the family. It's very exciting.
"I'm a Quebecer, and it's great that she is learning how to speak French. I'm glad that the little one will speak French, too."
