The girls of St. Trinians are heading back to the big screen after a sequel was announced at Cannes on Sunday.

The movie, which was released earlier last Christmas, was a box office hit in the UK and so it's hardly a surprise that a sequel is being planned for a 2009 release.

St. Trinians: The Legend of Fritton's Gold is being described as a "cross between The Goonies and The Da Vinci Code", and will once again be directed by Oliver Parker and Barnaby Thompson - with Piers Ashworth and Nick Martin also returning on scripting duties.

It's not been confirmed but it's expected that the original cast members, including new Bond girl Gemma Arterton, Russell Brand and Rupert Everett as Headmistress Fritton, will return.
