Kerry had her doubts about Amin film

The Last King Of Scotland's Kerry Washington has admitted she wasn't keen on signing up for the movie.

The beautiful actress fell in love with the script but confessed she had her doubts about the film, which centres around former Ugandan ruler Idi Amin.

"I loved the script when I read it but I have to be completely honest and say that I was a bit nervous," she said, as she attended the movie's premiere at the London Film Festival.

"Here is a film about a white guy in Africa and some white guy is directing it. I didn't want to get involved in another one of those, sort of, you know, white hero stories that were very popular in the 80s and 90s."

Kerry became more interested after meeting with Oscar-winning director Kevin Macdonald and talking over his ideas for the film.

"I had a meeting with Kevin and immediately I felt more comfortable, not just because he's won an Oscar and a Bafta, but because he started showing me his own pictures of Uganda from his recent trip and he started talking about the country," she said.

"It was very clear to me that this was a man who loved Uganda. He wanted to tell the story with an enormous amount of humanity and truth and love."
