The prequel to Hollywood blockbuster The Da Vinci Code is the first film to have been hit by the writer's strike in LA.
Hollywood writers have been on strike in a row over royalties, but up to now it was TV shows that were hit hardest by the picket.
However, Angels & Demon, the follow up to the 2006 hit, has been delayed because of script problems.
The film, which will once again star Tom Hanks, was due to be released in December 2008 but will now be seen the following summer. Akiva Goldman is writing the script but the strike states Writers Guild of America members can't polish scripts during the picket.
A statement for Columbia Pictures reads, "With the strike nearing its third week, Columbia Pictures has postponed production of Angels & Demons.
"While the film-makers and the studio feel the screenplay is very strong, we do not believe it is the fully realised production draft required of this ambitious project.
"At this time, there is no new start date, but we are setting a release date of 15 May 2009."
