The Queen gave British comedy A Bunch of Amateurs her royal seal of approval - calling the plot "highly amusing".
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip attended the annual Royal Film Performance gala, which this year features the quirky movie A Bunch Of Amateurs.
The comedy, which stars Imelda Staunton, Sir Derek Jacobi and Burt Reynolds, revolves around a washed up Hollywood star who mistakenly believes he is to play King Lear at Stratford-upon-Avon. However, he is aghast to discover it is in fact an amateur production staged in a barn in Suffolk.
Samantha Bond, who also stars in the movie, was delighted to meet The Queen, saying, "I have never met her before. We discussed the chilliness of filming on the Isle of Man in February."
The former Miss Moneypenny also added that The Queen thought the film's plot sounded "quite amusing".
The proceeds from the gala go to the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund - which helps TV and film industry employees in time of hardship.
This year's Royal Film Performance was thrown into doubt when the original choice Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince delayed its release until next summer.
However, the gala's chief executive Peter Hore is delighted to have found a suitable replacement, calling the comedy "a feel good movie (that) would be a classic after tonight".
The film is released on December 19
