Directed by Tim Sullivan, this 18-rated comic-horror has the tagline 'You are what THEY eat'.
The plot follows three college slackers, Jay (Anderson Lee), Matthew (Cory Jones), and Dylan (Nelson Elliot) who plan a good time away from their college by heading out to Daytona Beach for Spring Break.
But along they way, they are forced to take a detour into the small, off-the-map, town of Pleasant Valley, Georgia. Along with three drifters, Joey, Kat and Ricky, and biker Malcolm and his girlfriend Leah, the gang are welcomed as guests of honor by the cheerful, but sinister-looking Mayor Buckman for the annual Pleasant Valley Guts and Glory Festival.
But the eight unsuspecting Northerners don't realise that Mayor Buckman (played by horror legend Robert Englund aka Freddy Kruger) and the residents actually plan to use the festival as a blood ritual by separating the guests and killing them off one-by-one in ultra-gory fashion.
Grotesque killings are reminiscent of 60s/70s horror flicks when the filmakers didn't have to justify the violence for box office ratings. The dialogue is weak, some of the action crude, but then this is one for die-hard 'blood 'n guts' horror fans although, as with many contemporary horror movies, there is possibly a tongue-in-cheek element.
Special features include director & producer commentary, commentary with director Tim Sullivan and actor Robert Englund, Inside The Asylum "Making of" featurette, deleted/extended scenes, outtakes and alternate opening with John Landis and the theatrical trailers.
