Frasier star to lead Zucker's Scrooge spoof

Kelsey Grammer will play the role of Ebeneezer Scrooge in the forthcoming satire, An American Carol.

It's the second time the Frasier star (not to mention the voice of Sideshow Bob on The Simpsons) has played Dickens' notorious tightwad, following his appearance in a US TV special four years ago.

This film, however, is an original take on the familiar story. Written and directed by veteran spoofer David Zucker (Airplane, Naked Gun, Scary Movie 3 etc), it's described by Variety as a lampoon of "contemporary American culture, particularly Hollywood."

Production is scheduled to start next week, just a few days after another adaptation of the same story. The Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past stars Matthew McConaughey as a philandering Scrooge and Michael Douglas in the Jacob Marley role, warning him of his impending spectral visits.
