Hugh Jackman is racing to the top of the A-list after landing the lead role on new big budget action film Drive.

In the film, which Jackson produces with his Seed Productions partner John Palermo, the X-Men actor will play a Hollywood stunt driver who drives getaway cars as a side job. Problems occur when a contract is put out on his life.

The film, which is based on a book by James Sallis, is to be directed by Descent director Neil Marshall. Hossein Amini is on scripting duties.

"Hoss is a fantastic writer, and he's written three amazing car chases in the film," Marshall said.

"He's turned them into dramatic scenes as opposed to the usual crash, bang, wallop. I would like to be shooting it this summer."

British horror director Marhsall is certainly keeping busy. He has also signed up to write and direct Sacrilege - a horror thriller set in the wild West.
