Kirk beamed up to Trek prequel

J.J. Abrams has confirmed what all Trekkies had been hopping: that Captain James T. Kirk will be in his upcoming Star Trek prequel.

The man behind Lost and Mission Impossible III tells it like it is in Star Trek Magazine: "James T. Kirk appears in the movie."

"The respect we all have for Star Trek canon - and for a brand-new audience - is massive," Abrams continued. "The script is done. We're now starting pre-prep, and we can't wait to start shooting! Many more details to follow!"

The Paramount movie is expected to begin shooting later this year, with a rumoured all-star cast including Matt Damon in the young Kirk role.
