The Jurassic Park franchise is no longer extinct - one of the original film's stars has announced there is a fourth instalment coming soon.

Laura Dern, who plays Dr Ellie in the 1993 movie and 2001's Jurassic Park III, told TV Guide recently, "It's a while away but my understanding is it's happening and my character is very involved. I know [director] Steven Spielberg is looking forward to [getting it together] over the next year."

Dern's comments come as a bit of surprise because there has been no word from Spielberg lately about a fourth dinosaur adventure. And it's not like the director doesn't have any projects lined up. Once he's finished promoting the new Indiana Jones movie he has the Tintin trilogy, the Abraham Lincoln biopic and the screen version of the infamous Chicago 7 trial to work on.

So the wait to see Jurassic Park's gates open again could still be a long one.
