The Dark Knight unsurprisingly dominated the Spike TV's Scream 2008 awards ceremony in LA, bagging 12 awards including The Ultimate Scream.

More surprising was Star Wars creator George Lucas turning up to the event to accept the Comic-Con Icon Award in dramatic fashion - flanked by Stormtroopers. Needless to say he was given a standing ovation from the extremely excited crowd.

The Scream awards recognises achievements in the fantasy, horror and comic book fields.

The Dark Knight's Christian Bale won Best Superhero for his Batman role, Gary Oldman picked up Best Supporting Actor and the late Heath Ledger was named both Best Fantasy Actor and Best Villain for his portrayal of The Joker.

However, Hellboy II: The Golden Army won Best Fantasy Movie, pleasing its star Ron Perlman who said:

"I think the thing that took longest was waiting for Pan's Labyrinth to be made and for Guillermo del Toro to have the time to finally turn the page and put his attention on Hellboy, but I always felt in my heart of hearts that there'd be a second Hellboy".

British veteran Sir Anthony Hopkins received the Legend Award for his contributions to scary films (which seems to consist of Hannibal Lector), while Wes Craven, more understandably, collected the Mastermind Award for his influential horror movie work and Tim Burton was given an Immortal Award for his "unique interpretation of horror and fantasy".
