Steve Martin's The Pink Panther, which also stars singer Beyonce Knowles, has beaten futuristic thriller V For Vendetta to top of the UK box office chart.
The Pink Panther which opened to poor reviews on both sides of the Atlantic took almost £2m in its opening three days.
V for Vendetta, produced by the Wachowski brothers (The Matrix) and starring Natalie Portman, took just under £1.2m.
South African movie Tsotsi, which won an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, was another new entry at number 10. The film, which opened in just 86 cinemas, made £200,000 in its first three days - in contrast, The Pink Panther opened in 403 cinemas. Tsotsi is about the life of a young carjacker who finds a baby in the back of one of his stolen cars.
Last week's number one, horror film The Hills Have Eyes, slipped to number three, while family cartoon Chicken Little held firm in fourth spot.
