Travolta: "Drugs kill, not guns"

John Travolta has blamed high-school shootings such as Columbine, Red Lake and the recent tragedy at Virginia Tech on pupils taking prescription drugs, rather than anything to do with gun laws.

The actor, who is a strong follower of Scientology - an organisation firmly against anti-depressant drugs - said: "If you analyse most of the school shootings, it's not gun control. It is psychotropic drugs at the bottom of it."

The perpetrator of the Virgina Tech shooting, Cho Seung-Hui, was not on medication when he gunned down 22 students two months ago.

Travolta, 53, added: "I don't want to create a controversy. I've got an opinion."

And on fellow Scientologist Tom Cruise's famous anti-psychiatry and pharmaceutical drugs stance, Travolta says he agrees. "I don't disagree with anything Tom says," he told W magazine. "How would I have presented it? Maybe differently than how he did, but it doesn't matter."
