Seth Rogen has laughed off rumours he is starring in the third Ghostbusters movie, branding the idea of bringing in new members of the supernatural team "terrible".

It was recently revealed by original Ghostbuster Harold Ramis that Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson were in talks to reprise their roles from the 1984 classic. However, they will be merely cameo roles as the franchise hopes to reinvent itself with brand new Ghostbusters.

It is hoped that comedy producer Judd Apatow will get involved, which in turn has led to rumours that Rogen will star in the movie.

However, the Knocked Up actor insists that unless the script is perfect he has no desire to taint the memory of the previous two movies.

He told Collider, "It's hard to imagine that would be good, isn't it? I mean just as a movie fan I am the first guy to be sceptical of that. It sounds like a terrible idea when you first hear it. At first hearing it sounds like the worst idea ever. I mean, that would have to be one motherf**king good script.

"There is a point where it’s so bad it's really easy to say no."

The 1984 movie revolved around a group of paranormal investigators who discover that spectral forces are going to destroy New York City. Directed by Ivan Reitman, it was Columbia Pictures most successful movie ever until it was beaten by Men in Black and Spider Man.
