No Country and There Will Be Blood lead Oscar noms

Coen Brothers thriller No Country For Old Men and Paul Thomas Anderson epic There Will Be Blood lead the field at this year's Oscars - they have scored eight nominations each.

No Country For Old Men, which stars Josh Brolin (pic), Javier Bardem and Tommy Lee Jones, received main nods for best picture, best supporting actor (Bardem) and best director.

Anderson also received a best director nomination for There Will Be Blood, alongside The Diving Bell and the Butterfly's Julian Schnabel, Juno's Jason Reitman and Tony Gilroy for Michael Clayton.

The nominations for best supporting actor went to Casey Affleck (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford), Philip Seymour Hoffman for Charlie Wilson's War, Hal Holbrook (Into The Wild) and Tom Wilkinson for Michael Clayton.

Joining American Gangster's Ruby Dee for best supporting actress are Cate Blanchett for I'm Not There, Gone Baby Gone's Amy Ryan, Tilda Swinton (Michael Clayton) and 13 year old actress Saorise Ronan for Atonement.

Tommy Lee Jones received a best actor nom for In The Valley Of Elah, alongside George Clooney (Michael Clayton). Johnny Depp (Sweeney Todd), Viggo Mortenson for Eastern Promises and early favourite Daniel Day-Lewis (There Will Be Blood).

Keira Knightley was a surprise omission from the best actress category. Instead we have a second nomination for Blanchett (Elizabeth: The Golden Age), who is up against Julie Christie for Away From Her, Marion Cotillard (La Vie En Rose), Laura Linney for The Savages and Juno's Ellen Page.

Alongside No Country and There Will Be Blood, the other names competing for Best Film are Atonement, Michael Clayton and Juno.

The ceremony will take place on February 24
