Matthew McConaughey has been ruled out of starring in the movie based on comic book hero Captain America.

Marvel recently announced that Captain America would be their latest superhero to get his own film following Iron Man's success. And it was quickly rumoured that McConaughey was in talks for the part. However, Marvel chief Kevin Feige denied the reports, calling them "absolutely false".

Feige also confirmed that the film would be a period piece, with the story taking place during World War II.

The comic's origin story had Captain America living in the 1940s before being frozen during a battle with his arch-nemesis Red Skull. He is reawakened years later in modern times (yes, it sounds a bit like Austin Powers).

Captain America is to be released in 2011.
