Martin Scorcese will no longer be directing the forthcoming Bob Marley documentary due to scheduling conflicts.
The Departed director and Oscar winner recently directed the Rolling Stones concert film Shine A Light and has previously made a documentary about blues. His replacement, Jonathan Demme, is no newcomer to music docs either - he made Talking Heads' film Stop Making Sense and Neil Young: Heart of Gold.
The Marley film will be released to coincide with what would have been the reggae icon's 65th birthday in February, 2010.
It's possible that the film's potential clash with another Marley doc from The Weinstein Co. might have also been a factor in Scorsese's decision. Chris Blackwell, president of Marley's publisher Mountain Music, previously said: "Martin Scorsese doesn't want to go out with a competing project. The Weinstein project has put the documentary into jeopardy."
