Danes aches for anonymity

Romeo and Juliet star Claire Danes has joined the seemingly endless list of celebrities who find fame "irritating".

The 28-year-old – who was thrust into the spotlight aged 17 when she appeared opposite Leonardo Ci Caprio in the aforementioned film – can't understand why there is so much interest in her life.

"Almost every now in New York I'm followed by photographers – and I'm not even that famous," she said. "I'm in enough films so that people recognise me but I'm hardly a huge star. I find the whole fame thing irritating."

That said, she finds fame marginally less annoying than she did as a teenager. "I was a little disorientated with all the attention. In retrospect I realise I was terribly naive. But I tried my best to cope with it."

Danes is currently starring in Stardust alongside Robert De Niro.
