A London fancy dress shop has unearthed the original cape worn by Christopher Lee in classic 1958 vampire film Dracula.

The precious piece of movie memorabilia had been missing for 30 years, and is thought to be worth $50,000 (GBP25,000).

When staff at Angel's Fancy Dress discovered the cape during their annual stock take, they called on British actor Lee, 85, (pic) to verify it was authentic. Manager Emma Angel admitted she was "delighted" to have found the cloak, commenting: "In the run-up to Halloween we are frantically checking our other costumes, so that we do not inadvertently let a partygoer show up to a raucous fancy dress party in any other precious pieces of film history.

"We certainly won't be hiring this one out again in the near future."

The cape wasn't the only film item found - a long overcoat worn by Peter Cushing (who played Vampire hunter Van Helsing) was also discovered and is currently being valued.

Dracula - directed by Terence Fisher - was the second movie Cushing and Lee made together after they appeared in the 1957 film The Curse of Frankenstein together, and the first of many villainous characters played by Lee.

Other famous roles by the actor included portraying Roger Moore's nemesis Scaramanga in The Man With The Golden Gun and more recently, Count Dooku in the Star Wars prequels and fallen wizard Saruman in The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
