Sam Riley is reportedly being wooed by Russell Crowe to play Robin Hood in Ridley Scott's revisionist take on the famed story.

Riley, who was critically lauded for his portrayal of late Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis in Control, is reportedly in talks to play Robin Hood in Nottingham. In this retelling of the famed story, the Sheriff of Nottingham (Crowe) will be portrayed as a noble and brave lawman fighting against the cruel and vicious Robin Hood.

A source told Latino Review, "Russell Crowe wants Sam Riley who played Joy Division lead singer Ian Curtis in Control to play opposite him as Robin Hood. It's not official yet but they will most likely get Sam Riley for the role because Crowe loved his performance in Control."

The Riley rumours follow recent reports that Bale was lined up to play Robin Hood, but we presume with his roles in franchises Batman and Terminator he'll be a bit busy to journey into Sherwood forest.

Sienna Miller will play Maid Marian in the film, alongside Vanessa Redgrave, William Hurt and Atonement's Saoirse Ronan.
