TV satirist Chris Morris is working a movie with FIlm4 about suicide bombers.
The Brass Eye creator initially intended the idea to be a TV series but it was rejected by nervous BBC and Channel 4 bosses. However, the latter decided it would work well as a feature length film and handed it to FIlm4.
The plot apparently focusses on a jihadist cell in the north of England. Morris has said that he wanted the film to explore "the Dad's Army side of terrorism" with potential suicide bombers getting shoot in the foot etc. Morris is said to have toured towns with large Muslim communities, such as Bradford and Luton, while researching the film. Mark Herbert from Warp Films said: "Chris's research has been meticulous. It is fatwa-proof."
Morris's Brass Eye spoof piece about paedophilia attracted a record-breaking number of complaints in 2001 and, on another edition of the show, he got a number of celebrities to speak out against the dangers of a non-existent drug called "cake".
A spokeswoman for Channel 4 said: "Channel 4 has a long history of working with Chris Morris, and a significant funding contribution towards his latest project is being made. It was agreed at a very early stage that the project would work best as a film and from this point was developed through Film4."
