"300" producer Mark Canton has nabbed the rights to iconic, pre-War character Hopalong Cassidy. Hopalong Who?! Well, Cassidy was perhaps less well known this side of the Atlantic but from 1904 to the mid 1950's Cassidy was a household name Stateside. Becoming a staple of B-Movie Westerns, the gruff Hopalong even became the first ever character to appear on the side of a lunchbox (how's that Fact Fans!).

Created in 1904 by writer Clarence E. Mulford, Cassidy was soon synonymous with pulp fiction novels and would eventually make his way on to the small screen as a good ol' American Cowboy with William Boyd playing the character in no less than 66 films throughout the 1930s, '40s and '50s.

This would officially mark Cassidy's first foray on to the Big Screen yet Canton must be hoping that there's still affection out there for his new found friend after all this time!
