Kurt Russell will star as deadly killer Stuntman Mike in Quentin Tarantino's upcoming horror film Death Proof.
Speaking at major comic convention Comic-Con, in San Diego at the weekend Tarantino confirmed he'd just signed the Backdraft star adding: "Every slasher film needs a killer ... I've always wanted to work with Kurt Russell."
Death Proof will be one half of an ambitious 'Grindhouse' double-movie project Tarantino is shooting with fellow director Robert Rodriguez for Dimension Films. Tarantino told fans that the film would effectively be two movies for the price of one. "This is my next movie, and this is Robert's next movie," he said, adding, "This isn't some Twilight Zone movie ****ing kind of thing."
During the convention Rodriguez showed footage from zombie flick Planet Terror - his half of the Grindhouse feature - which he hopes to finish filming in Texas, this week. Rodriguez's purposefully scratched digital footage, featuring Rose McGowan wearing a machine-gun leg, earned a standing ovation from the 6,500 fans who packed into a cinema hall to watch it.
Tarantino plans to start production on Death Proof in four weeks.
