It turns out Paul Newman, voice of Doc Hudson and who announced last year there will be a sequel to "Cars", was right. But apparently faster does mean better for Pixar who has decided to speed up the release of "Cars 2".
This sequel to John Lasseter's 2006 film "Cars" was originally set to release in summer 2012, but Lasseter, Pixar's chief creative officer announced at a Disney presentation Wednesday that the film will be out for summer 2011. Lasseter will step down as director and Brad Lewis, who produced "Antz" and "Ratatouille", will step in. His inspiration stems from a worldwide publicity tour he did for "Cars" and will focus on featuring cars from around the world.
2011 is a ways off, but to keep fans pleased Pixar will present a series of animated shorts dubbed "Car Toons" (how original) on the Disney Channel. The first to run will be about Mater; the truck character voiced by Larry the Cable Guy. These "toons" will also be shown theatrically.
