Hudson's new role will Bee good

Dreamgirls star Jennifer Hudson is to star alongside Queen Latifah in The Secret Life of Bees. No, it's not a follow up to Jerry Seinfeld's Bee Movie but a film based on the hit novel.

The Oscar winner will play alongside Queen Latifah and Brit Sophie Okonedo as the friend of a 14-year-old girl who moves in with her three beekeeping sisters after leaving her abusive father.

Dakota Fanning is in talks to play the 14 year-old lead character with Latifah and Sophie Okonedo as two of the sisters plus singer Alicia Keys, who made her film debut in Smokin' Aces, is in negotiations for the part of the third sibling.

Work on the film, based on Sue Monk Kidd's 2003 best seller, is due to start in North Carolina in January, and is scheduled for release in late 2008.
