Clive Owen will star in Colombian drug drama Cartagena.

The movie tells the story of an undercover agent who finds himself evading drug dealers and international agents after he gets caught up in a complex plot involving the Colombian cartel.

Cartagena is a city in Colombia, which has a colourful history featuring wars and a sudden spike in tourist development, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Michael Ross has signed up to pen the screenplay. The writer had recently been hired to adapt the remake of this year's stylish thriller Jar City.

Owen's next screen outing will be the thriller The International co-starring Naomi Watts when he's an Interpol agent taking on the institutional banking world.
