Strait talking from 10,000 BC actor

Rising actor Steven Strait has blasted critics of Independence Day director Roland Emmerich.

Strait, who plays the lead actor in Emmerich's forthcoming action spectacular 10,000 BC, says that the director's critics, who accuse him of just making bland blockbusters, are off the mark.

Strait told us, "He's a fantastic director. To get a chance to work with someone who I'm a huge fan of was a big deal for me. I love his films, especially Independence Day. I can't understand why some people criticise him for making fun movies

"Apart from Godzilla, he makes original films not remakes and sequels. While, I'm not having a go at sequels and remakes, there are a lot of them about so I'm proud to be in something that is an original movie."

In 10,000 BC, Strait plays a young caveman who is forced to lead a group of hunters in a mission to save his true love from the hands of evil warlords. On their journey they encounter sabre-toothed tigers, mammoths and prehistoric predators.

And while the actor, who had previously starred in teen action-horror The Covenant and family comedy Sky High, is being labelled as Hollywood's new action star he can't see him still performing spectacular stunts after he is sixty, like a certain Mr Stallone.

He laughs, "I haven't seen the new Rambo film, so I couldn't possibly comment on that film. But still doing action movies at 60 is definitely not on the agenda."

10,000 BC is out in cinema on March 14
