Dennis Quaid thriller Vantage Point has leapt over sci-fi flick Jumper to claim the top spot at the US box office.
The action film, which also stars Lost's Matthew Fox, Forest Whitaker, Sigourney Weaver and William Hurt, revolves around the shooting of the US president - as seen from different perspectives.
It made $24 million in its opening weekend and knocked off last week's number one Jumper, which dropped to number two after earning $12.7 million.
Children's fantasy tale The Spiderwick Chronicles also moved down one place to number three, while dance sequel Step Up 2 The Streets was at fourth place after taking $9.7 million.
Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson's former US number one comedy Fools Gold took fifth place.
Oscar weekend saw a push in cinema sales for There Will Be Blood. The epic oil drama, which stars this year's best actor Daniel Day Lewis, re-entered the top ten after taking $2.6 million.
