The night always looked like it belonged to one of the two cinematic titans of "No Country for Old Men" and "There Will Be Blood" and so, in the throws of predictability, it came to pass. The former, the shockingly good "No Country for Old Men", took home four awards making it the biggest winner of the night. The neo–Western nabbed the Best Motion Picture gong, Achievement in Directing (Joel Coen and Ethan Coen), Adapted Screenplay (Joel Coen and Ethan Coen) and Supporting Actor (Javier Bardem – which was a nailed on certainty before the curtain was even raised on the glamorous shindig). The runner–up of the night was, surprisingly, Paul Greengrass' "The Bourne Ultimatum" receiving three technical awards for Film Editing, Sound Mixing and Sound Editing. Best Actor went to, wait for it, Daniel Day–Lewis for "There Will Be Blood" ("But of course…" I hear you cry) and, staying true to BAFTA's predictions nary a week ago, Best Actress went to Marion Cotillard for her breathtaking lead in "La Vie en Rose". The Best Supporting Actress award went to Tilda Swinton for her standout performance in "Michael Clayton". Overlooked in all of its other categories, the indie hit "Juno" had to make do with just one award for Diablo Cody, winning the Original Screenplay award. Still though "Juno" is in good company in the 'so close, but yet so far' corner alongside "Atonement" – the Brit heavyweight only nabbing one award for Dario Marianelli's score despite being up for six awards!
