Ewan McGregor will face off against Tom Hanks in Angels & Demons - the sequel to The Da Vinci Code.
The Trainspotting actor will play Camerlengo Carlo Ventresca, a close aide to the Pope who initially helps Robert Langdon (Hanks) in his investigation to solve a murder and unravel a plot by The illuminati to blow up the Vatican.
Munich's Ayelet Zurer also joined the cast as Langdon's sidekick, who is trying to solve the murder of her father.
Ron Howard will direct, while Akiva Goldsman will write the screenplay. The pair performed the same duties on the worldwide smash The Da Vinci Code.
Both films are based on the best selling books by Dan Brown.
